Our Response

We have partnered with Joint Aid Management South Africa (JAMSA) to deliver food parcels to vulnerable communities in South Africa. For more than three decades JAM have served the children of Africa, using sustainable and locally-led interventions in their mission to provide food security and nutrition to vulnerable communities.

Emergency Food Assistance

In partnership with JAM SA we are distributing food packs to the most vulnerable communities in South Africa. The food packs contain a balance of proteins, starch and micronutrient-rich foods. They feed a family of four to five people for a month and cost $30, including distribution.

Humanitarian Logistics

We have already partnered with Pick n Pay Feed the Nation (food sourcing/supply and financial contribution), Unitrans (bulk transport), with Joint Aid Management South Africa (JAMSA) providing the hamper packing and distribution.

We have a mechanism established that allows for us to take contributions for sponsorship of hampers by companies on behalf of their staff, with collection by the staff from distribution points close to their homes, using our voucher system.

  • We procure bulk commodities through Pick n Pay supply chain with no margin.
  • Unitrans provide inbound/outbound bulk logistics at cost. Local logistics businesses support local logistics.
  • Redemption partners receive stock and pack hampers or hampers are packed with packing partners and delivered to redemption partner.
  • Vouchers are verified and redeemed.
  • Families are fed.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Delivering food packs gives us the unique opportunity to educate communities on COVID-19 water, sanitation and hygiene training at the same time.

Non-Food Item Distribution

To complement the food packs and for maximum impact, we are also making additional items such as sanitary towels, sanitiser, toilet paper and baby food available where needed.

Food Vouchers

Distributions will be run through our voucher system. The system sends out an SMS voucher to the verified beneficiary informing them that a food pack has been provided for them and gives details of the location and time to redeem/collect the pack (this will be the closest distribution point to their address).

When arriving they present the voucher, it is scanned through our app and, once verified, the food hamper is issued. The recipient then receives a final SMS listing the items in the hamper and asking for confirmation that all items were received. This confirmation provides a closed loop of proof of impact.
